Habitat for Humanity Toronto moving into a simple, decent and affordable home of its own!
Habitat for Humanity Toronto is delighted to announce that we will soon be moving into a simple, decent, affordable home of our very own! The new building, located at 155 Bermondsey Road (near Eglinton Ave East and the DVP), will integrate our existing office, ReStore East York facilities and Home Building Factory.

In designing the site, developers Maple Reinders have ensured that our new space will stay true to the Habitat building model. The structure will be constructed using affordable building materials, much of which will be donated, and will be an environmentally-conscious space boasting LEED Silver certification. The move, which will reflect Habitat for Humanity Toronto’s commitment to remain fiscally prudent during tough economic times, will result in a reduction of operational costs. This reduction will be mainly attributed to the fact that in consolidating our current office, retail and warehouse spaces, the organization will expend less on mortgage payments than is presently spent on leasing the three Habitat Toronto rental properties.

It is paramount to understand that in freeing up valuable financial resources, Habitat for Humanity Toronto will be able to better serve partner families and also to ensure a more effective use of donor dollars. It is also significant to recognize that in purchasing a property of our own, we are investing in the future success of the organization, while putting into practice a core facet of Habitat for Humanity. The developers have kept this future in mind while crafting adaptable plans which allow for potential building expansion, additional green space, and a day care centre. Last but not least, we are also thrilled that in centralizing Habitat Toronto’s workspaces we will be able to bring together staff , volunteers, partner families and donors under one roof. This change will not only build a greater sense of community within the Habitat Family, but will also build hope for the organization in realizing its mission to serve families in need in the future.

The New Building is scheduled to be ready in January 2011. Click here to view Architect's Present Drawings of new Habitat Toronto Home
