World Habitat Day

Date: 12:01am - 11:59pm (10/04/2010)
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Description:

Over 71,000 families in Toronto are in need of affordable housing right now, and more than 30 per cent of Toronto’s children five years of age and younger live below the low income cut-off level, which means their families spend a greater percentage of income on basics, such as food, clothing and shelter, than does the average family of similar size.

An amazing 100,000 Toronto families pay more than 50 per cent of pre-tax income in rent.

Habitat for Humanity Toronto believes that all members of our society are entitled to the basic housing rights of affordability, adequacy and suitability. On World Habitat Day, Habitat for Humanity around the world will raise its voice to emphasize the importance of simple, decent and affordable housing.

We know that simple, decent and affordable housing leads to better outcomes for individuals and families and ultimately leads to a better society and more productive community.

This year, Habitat Toronto urges you to stand up on World Habitat Day, to give a voice to those living in need and let it be known that adequate housing should be made a priority.

Take action and get involved on October 4, 2010!
